Background, Look and Feel

The LG Cookie Fresh GS290 is the latest phone from the masters of the budget touchscreen mobile phone. In terms of where the Cookie Fresh sits in the LG Cookie range it is definitely below the Cookie Plus. The Fresh takes some of the new features of the Cookie Plus but then discards others. There is a new 3.5 mm audio jack but the 3MP camera has now been replaced by a 2MP camera.

As you may have guessed the Cookie Fresh is more affordable than the Cookie Plus but given the features you get for your money it still packs a punch. Whilst the phone may not be top of the range it feels comfortable in hand. All in all, given the low price tag, we think this phone is a good buy and should become a popular touchscreen mobile phone.

The phone will be available in a wide range of colours such as: silver, orange, purple, blue, black, and lime.

The phone comes with a 3.2” resistive touchscreen which doesn’t make it the most easiest of touch screens to use. Nevertheless, given that this is a budget phone one cannot grumble. The display has a 240 x 400 pixels resolution. It also comes with a Cartoon UI with Live Square and has an accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate.

The phone has a 3.5” audio jack on the top of the device so you can listen to the FM radio or music player using your own headphones. On the side of the phone is a standard micro USB port (v.2.0) and a micoSD card slot which will allow you to hot swap memory cards (up to 8GB). On the back of the phone is a 2 MP (1600 x 1200 pixels) camera capable of video capture.

Availability & Pricing

The phone will be available in the UK in April. No price has been given for this device but it is likely to be under £100.
