Samsung Extreme W9705 is a clamshell device measuring 100.5 x 52.0 x 22.9 mm and weighs in at a hefty 135g. The weight is probably owing to the fact that this device has been ruggedized for a life of outdoor activity and extreme sports.
The Samsung Extreme has a casing made up of impact resistant rubberised reinforced plastic that conforms to IP54 standards. This means it can withstand extreme temperatures; it is dust proof, waterproof and can handle a drop from five feet.
To reinforce its sporty/outdoorsy credentials the phone comes with electronic compass, built-in altimeter, pedometer and GPS navigation.

Although built like a tank the Samsung SPH-W9705 comes with all the dainty little extras one would expect from most smartphones. It comes with: MP3 player, games, alarm, calculator, calendar, voice memo, organiser, built-in speakerphone and has call recording.
The user interface has a small 2.4 inch (240 x 320 pixel) graphical TFT display. There is also a small 1.07 inch external screen with a resolution of 96×96 pixels. The phone also comes with a built-in 2 MP camera with video, video calling and image stabilization.
The Samsung Extreme W9705 has a 83MB microSD which can be expanded up to 16GB. The lithium ion battery is capable of 360hours standby and 4h 40m talk time on 3G.
Availability & Pricing
The phone should be out in Q2 2010 and will cost about £250.
