Background Information & Look & Feel
The Sony Ericsson Aspen business smartphone will be available in black or white silver. To look at the phone is devilishly sexy with its slim sleek looks. However, it’s not the looks that will sell this device. This phone is a serious rival to other business smartphones on the market such as the Nokia E63, BlackBerry Storm 9500, Nokia E72, and HTC HD2.

The Sony Ericsson Aspenis the second ever mobile phone to use Windows Mobile 6.5.3. According to Sony Ericsson the Aspen is a phone with a conscience because it’s greener than many other cell phones. As part of Sony Ericsson’s “GreenHeart” range the Aspen is packaged using recycled materials that use water-based paint. The Aspen also comes with a “GreenHeart panel”, an “Eco mate application” and a “Power Saving Mode”. All these “green” applications are nice but they probably won’t stop the ice caps from melting.

Hardware – Display, Keyboard, Battery, Communications, Memory, Connections, Multimedia
In terms of hardware the Sony Ericsson has a small 2.4″ 240 x 320 pixel QVGA TFT touchscreen LCD panel, a compact QWERTY keyboard, a basic 3.2 megapixel camera, A-GPS, 3.5G support, WiFi, microSD expandable memory, a USB connector, Bluetooth, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The mobile phone has quad-band GSM/EDGE with either HSPA 900/2100 or 850/900/2100 radios (FM radio). Even though the Sony Ericsson Aspen has a small display it still compares favourably with its competitors because they lack a touchscreen panel.

Battery life is an important factor for business Smartphones as you don’t want your phone to conk out during the business day. Sony Ericsson claim that their Li-Ion mAh battery provides 8 hours of talk time with up to 24 days (600 hours) standby on 3G. It also has a music play time of 12 hours.

Software
The software used by the Sony Ericsson Aspen is the latest version of Windows mobile. Although Windows Mobile 6.5.3 is an update the latest release has improved the usability by improving navigation. The operating system now supports capacitive touch screens and it enables multi-touch. Browser performance has also been improved with faster download times and improved memory management. Other improvements have included the pan and flick gestures, zoom and rational speeds.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Aspen has the solution to this by including some fun social networking applications such as Skype, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, as well as Google Maps. You also get MP3 (MP3/eAAC+/WAV/WMA player), MP4 (MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player), and Pocket Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, PDF viewer) so now you can work hard and play hard.

Availability & Pricing
The Aspen is due to come out in Q2 of 2010 just in time for the Mobile world congress . As for price Sony Ericsson are keeping their cards to their chest and only commented that it would be “affordable”.
