Ofcom pushing for lower mobile phone calls between networksofcom logo Cheaper calls between networks coming our way

It has just been announced that Ofcom intend to force mobile phone networks to cut their call charges from one network to another. At present it cost 4.3p per minute to call another network. This will be reduced to 0.5p by 2015.

The regulatory body has also issued a new ruling that will make it easier to change your mobile provider. By 2011 it should be possible to change your network within one working day, rather than the existing two.

Currently the UK is the only country in Europe where you have to ask your mobile phone network if you can leave and take your number with you. In other countries this practice, known as porting, is near instant and does not require permission.
