Facebook has launched a new website for mobile phones called Facebook Zero – zero.facebook.com. Although the name sounds more like a brand of Coke, this low bandwidth website will be used for mobile users of Facebook.

The site was created out of necessity as 100 million people now access Facebook via their mobile phone. This demand is reflected by most new phones providing Facebook applications. In December 2009 people in the UK spent 2.2bn minutes browsing the Facebook site.

Facebook already has another social network site called “Facebook Lite” which is a cut down version of the original, aimed at providing access for people with slow internet connections.
